Workshop Manager

Summary of Role:

Srixon Sports Europe Ltd is aiming to be the number one golf company. This is a hands-on role which will contribute to our success by way of managing the day to day operations in the workshop and ensuring our customer base receives timely delivery of world class quality custom fitted clubs, with the primary objective of balancing supply with demand for all custom fit build, MTO and repairs.

Position in Organisation/Scope of Job

  • Reports to the Warehouse & Production Manager
  • Develops strong and effective working relationships with other teams and particularly the logistics team, the warehouse team and with Customer Services
  • Develops and manages effective working relationships with relevant suppliers
  • This post has 7 direct reports (this may increase)

Primary Responsibilities

Leadership and team management
  • Manage the workshop team, allocating workload and driving pro-active, strong individual performance along with a strong collaborative team approach
  • Ensure that good health and safety practices are followed and that H&S requirements are adhered to
  • Ensure effective management of custom fit workflow, and help with issue resolution
  • Motivate the team to ensure time and volume targets and build quality expectations are met, with customer service expectations paramount
  • Identify workshop training and coaching needs and develop a programme of continuous development. Provide training for the team members. Make recommendations for any external training needs and follow through in lie with processes and procedures
  • Manage an effective performance management programme for team members with regular formal and informal appraisals with focus on praise recognition for achievements and identifying and developing weaker skills
  • Co-ordinate resources and liaise with internal and key stakeholders to ensure work is delivered on time and to the required quality standard
Production and build schedule management
  • Ensure production orders are built in order of date and priority in accordance with directives from Warehouse and Production manager
  • Cut and craft golf clubs to SSE’s high standards, ensuing accurate shaft length, swing weighting, grip sizing, custom loft and lie setting and proper ferrule finishing
  • Ensure that quality build standards meet the corporate requirements
  • Liaise with the Head of Quality on all build issues
  • Ensure that consumable items are always available and that effective processes are in place for inventory checking ordering of replacement consumables
  • Manage the third-party inspection and maintenance of machinery and equipment, ensuring that it is safe to use and fit for purpose
  • Liaising with the Warehouse and Production Manager, ensure that the required H&S risk assessments, method statements, signs etc. are in place and kept up to date. Ensure that these are copied to the H&S team and that they are adhered to at all times
  • Ensure that all calibration records are kept up to date for the work shop machinery
  • Ensure the safe keeping of the master calibration clubs
  • Ensure that workshop and picking area risk assessments and health and safety measures are implemented and maintained
  • Seek constantly to reduce and eliminate risks to health and safety
  • Ensure the correct code of conduct is followed in the workshop with regards to all health & safety requirements
  • Ensure work areas are kept clean and that there is no workshop debris in the car park
  • Maintain safeguards for workshop operations and contents by improving and monitoring security procedures and protocols
Additional Tasks

To assist with other departmental duties where necessary, as listed below:

  • Due to the nature of the role, there may be a requirement to carry out some work out of office hours. This work is to be arranged in accordance with procedures
  • Due to the nature of the role, there may be a requirement to spend some time out with the Regional Account Managers in the given territory which would involve travel and some work out of office hours. This would occasional and is to be arranged in accordance with procedures

  • In all work activities, comply with data protection legislation and Srixon Sports Europe’s requirements for the protection of personal information and the privacy of individuals

  • Expert golf club builder with good understanding of club components, their roles and effects

  • First Aider

  • Good critical analysis skills
