CLEVELAND AND SRIXON BRING OUT THE BIG GUNS FOR THEIR CUSTOMER ‘SHOOT OUT’ EVENT
Thu May 21st 2009
Monday, May 18th at Bearwood Lakes Golf Club, Berkshire started with rain filled skies and windy conditions, not perfect conditions for playing host to some of the worlds top tour professionals and some of your largest customers you might think. But, as the final preparations were being made to the course and the SKY Sports camera’s arrived with Di Stewart at around 3pm, the skies broke and the sun came out, to leave the lucky customers and competition winners with the realization that they were just about to tee it up on the back nine of the pristine Bearwood Lakes Golf Club with either Henrik Stenson (current world top 4 ranked player and recent winner of The Players Championship), David Howell (Ryder Cup Player), Miguel Angel Jimenez (current BMW PGA Champion) or Soren Kjeldsen (recent winner on the European Tour) in front of a growing crowd of invited guests, customers, competition winners and the golf course designer himself Guy Hockley.

The main event was focused around each Tour Pro hosting a Fourball in a Texas Scramble format 5 Hole play-off. Strict terms of the event were that each member of the team had to be responsible for one tee shot each. This was always going to be tricky as each team had to play off the championship tees with the wind in the faces for 4 of the 5 holes, which jointly measured over 1706 YDS which was made up of 2 Par 4’s, 2 Par 3’s and a Par 5.

The crowds, staff and specially invited guests were treated to an exhibition style event. With each player being photographed and interviewed about either their driving, iron play, wedge play or how they came to choose the particular Srixon ball that they play with.

They were then given complete access to roam amongst the players whilst they took part in the Shoot Out event in a completely relaxed mood, with each player happy to sign autographs and have their pictures taken on the way round.

The crowds following Jimenez, could not believe their luck when he threw down a towel on the 13th tee at the sight one of his amateur playing partners splitting the fairway perfectly from their tee shot. It only became clear what was going on when he dropped to his knees and struck his tee shot with a gentle fade down the left hand side of the fairway, to applause from the admiring followers.

Leslie Hepsworth, CEO Srixon Sports Europe, who was present, said "This is the perfect way to treat our top Customers and show them what great Ambassadors our Tour Players are for our two brands"
The Shoot Out ended up being a closely fought out contest with Jimenez, Kjeldsen and Stenson all finishing on 1 under par with team Howell claiming the honors on a score of 2 under par. Each amateur team member took home a framed photo signed by their tour player team captain, along with other signed memorabilia including caps and the score card from the day. Team Howell also picked up a Cleveland 3 wood each.

Andy Martin, Foremost Golf, said “It was the most fun I have had on a golf course in as long a time as I care to remember.
It was certainly a well organised day and for me to get a knock with winner from the European Tour is something that I will remember for a long time.”

When asked what the tour players thought of the day, Iain Steele, (Cleveland Golf / Srixon European Tour Operations Manager) was delighted to report that “The Players all thought it was one of the best corporate days that they have been a part of.”
