Srixon Stars at Silvermere - a fantastic evening for 500+ spectators
Fri May 23rd 2008

Monday the 19th of May saw Silvermere Golf Club in Surrey host some of Srixon star names in an event that became know as the “Silvermere Srixon Shoot-Out”.
The event featured Laura Davies, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Greig Hutcheon who kindly agreed to stand in at the 11th hour for an ill Henrik Stenson who still managed to make an appearance later in the evening so not to disappoint his many fans. The final member of this illustrious 4-ball was twice European Tour winner Robert Lee, who was representing Sky Sports.
The course was in top condition and a fitting setting for any tournament.
A large crowd was treated to the chance to get up close and inside the Mercedes McClaren SLR super car before watching the play. This was kindly put on by the co-sponsors of Mercedes-Benz of Brooklands who also donated an amazing prize of a driving experience at Brooklands and a meal for 2 in the 5 star Michelin restaurant.
The match would be played in a skins format and the 1st hole was halved in a birdie 4 by Jimenez and Hutcheon. As the match continued all the holes were halved and the and as the players faced the final approach shot to the island 18th Green a tie-break was introduced for the nearest the pin in the event of the final hole being halved.
This turned out to be a wise decision as yet again the hole was halved leaving Greig Hutcheon’s as the winner as his approach shot to around 8 feet pipped Laura Davies effort by about 4 inches! This was great news for one lucky member of the crowd as Greig won him a selection of the latest Srixon equipment and a Mercedes driving experience.
The players received excellent support from a crowd in excess of 500 and then made the most of the BBQ and Wok Station at the Inn on the Lake as the players signed a mountain of autographs.
Miguel and Greig are now back off to Wentworth to take part in the PGA championship, hopefully to be joined by a recovering Henrik Stenson.
Laura will be back on tour and looking for her 70th worldwide victory.
The test they faced at the Silvermere course should certainly leave them all well prepared, not to mention ready to shop for a new Mercedes.
