Srixon’s Jim Furyk successfully defends Sun City-Nedbank Challenge.

Mon December 4th 2006

Srixon Staff Professional Jim Furyk successfully defended his Sun City-Nedbank Challenge in South Africa on Sunday, December 3, 2006 defeating the newest Srixon Staff Professional, Henrik Stenson by 2 shots. Furyk, the 2006 Vardon Trophy winner played with Srixon’s Z-URC golf ball, Srixon’s W-506 driver, I-506 irons and Srixon wedges to shoot a 12-under par, 276 total. After winning in dramatic fashion in 2005 by chipping in for birdie to win a 3-way playoff, Furyk won the 2006 event displaying the precision and consistency that has propelled him to the number 2 world ranking. He led wire to wire and did not make a bogie until the final round to defeat the star-studded field and claim the $1.2 million first prize.

Since switching to Srixon at the start of the year, Furyk climbed from 7th to 2nd in the Official World Golf Rankings, was 2nd in Scoring Average (68.86), and led in total Top 10 finishes for the year (13). He earned a career best $7.21 million in prize money which placed him 2nd on the PGA Tour Money List. The 2003 U.S. Open Champion has 12 career victories and is one of only 5 multiple winners on the PGA Tour in 2006—He won the Canadian Open in September and the Wachovia Championship in May of this year.

Srixon Staff Professional Henrik Stenson, playing in his first event as a member of the Srixon team, validated his switch with his strong second place showing. The long hitting Swede, who plays with Srixon’s I-506 irons and Srixon’s Z-UR golf ball, was the only player in the 12-man field to break 70 in the difficult conditions during the final round. He finished at 10-under par, 268 total. American golf fans will next get a chance to see Stenson at the Target World Challenge.

Srixon Staff Professionals have amassed 37 International victories in '06.
